Instructor Lead Courses (PMCC) - Continuing Teaching Units (CTUs)
To maintain your PMCC Approved Instructor status, the American Academy of Professional Coders (the Academy) requires completion of five (5) continuing teaching units (CTUs) annually. One CTU is earned for each hour of learning time.
CTUs are not required to be coding based. CTUs are required to be teaching, presenting and speaking related. Teaching does not qualify for CTUs
CTUs must be earned during the current year and submitted no later than December 31 each year. Items submitted for CEUs may not be submitted for CTUs. At the time of submission attach verification of attendance or a certificate of completion to the CTU form.
The methods approved by the Academy for earning CTUs each year are:
- Adult learning course offered through local colleges
- Speaking skills
- PowerPoint learning - beginning, intermediate, and advanced
- Mentoring programs
- Coaching programs
- Communication skills for teachers
- Public speaking skills - (egg, Toastmasters, National Speakers Bureau)
- Online courses for speakers, presenters, and teachers
- Presentation skills
- Academy sponsored workshops - teaching based and specialty coding based
- PMCC Instructor Networking – offered annually at the Academy's conference
- Teach the Teacher – offered annually at the Academy's conference
- Company In-service meetings

Following are examples of websites providing some of the options above (the Academy does not endorse the following programs or the program sponsors).
