Low-Cost CEUs

There are many opportunities for certified coders to obtain low-cost or free Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

  • Local Chapter Meetings / Local Events — Log in and you will see a personalized calendar of pre-approved local chapter meetings and events in your area. Earn one CEU per hour and enjoy networking with your knowledgeable peers!
  • Test Yourself Exercise — Both the monthly Coding Edge and bi-monthly EdgeBlast have a Test Yourself section where you can complete the questions and receive free CEUs. The Test Yourself exercise in the Coding Edge is worth one CEU per issue, and the EdgeBlast Test Yourself is worth .5 CEUs.
  • CMS — Medicare Learning Network offers 17 web-based programs. Complete the program and post test with a +70% accuracy and receive .5 to 2 CEU(s) for each. Details are on the CMS website: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/MLNProducts (click on the link to web-based training modules at the bottom of the page).
  • Code-A-Round™ Code-A-Round allows you to code real-world redacted op notes in a practice environment. Each bundle/round contains five (5) specialty operative notes to be coded and graded online. Each round provides a specialty operative note, boxes to type in the correct codes, and immediate grading. Code all five (5) op notes correctly to earn 1 specialty CEU per round. You can submit codes as many times as necessary to get the right answer. In the future, most specialties will have more than five rounds.
  • Instructing an AAPC pre-approved coding, billing, compliance or other core content inservice? Pre-approve the learning objectives and curriculum of your in-service and receive 1 CEU per hour of "podium time" for presenting. If you do not charge your peers and staff for this training, there is no fee by the AAPC to pre-approve the training meeting. See the vendor section for more details and to download the in-service application.
