Default Responsibilities of billing service when service has been terminated

We have rececently terminated our billing service, they are not cooperating with giving us our patient data, A/R etc.
What are the responsibilities of a billing service when services have been terminated?
What can we do?

Have an attorney check your contract with the billing service. These are touchy issues and you really need an attorney expertise.

Check your contract. Often times they will want to run out the A/R for a period of time since they have done the work and especially if they get paid a percent of collected amount.

You have an argument that the A/R is yours and hence it is their responsibility to provide it to you but again you have to check the contract
