Does anyone have an opinion or more information on malpractice insurance for coders?

You can carry it on yourself, the AAPC has a link and you can call the company to ask any questions. I thought the rates were very reasonable but my employer covers me so I didn't take it out.

Default Malpractice Insurance for Coders

Do you feel it's necessary for coders to have this? I recently attended a meeting where the opinions were varied and was hoping to get some feedback.

I was going to take it out if my employer didn't have it. Just for my peace of mind at the very least. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has it or has used it.

I personally know a coder who was sued by a patient as part of a fraud lawsuit against a practice. If you can afford it, it can't hurt to have it. It can hurt big time to not have it.

Default Marsh Affinity Group Services

I and every other certified coder on my staff are covered through "Marsh Affinity". The premium is only $96 per year and my employer pays for it. The coverage is up to $2 million per incident and up to $4 million in any one-policy year.

Contact Marsh Affinity Group Services directly at (800) 503-9230.

Hope that helps ............
