Default h & p when pt is obs

What would you bill for an h& p dictated on a pt who is obs? I would think it would be one of the initial obs codes 99218-99220 Please let me know

those are the correct code range

It would be codes 99218-99220:

1) for a patient who was admitted to observation status but wasn't discharged on the same day

2) was discharged on the same day but was there less than 8 hours.

Codes 99234-99236:

For a patient who was admitted and discharged from observation on the same date, was there greater than 8 hrs, and provider had both admitted and discharged patient.
