Default Plantar Fasciitis

I thought medicare issued a new rule just in the last few years, stating that they would not pay for both injection and strapping of the same foot, same d.o.s. for plantar fasciitis?

I work with another coder who continues to bill for this and get paid.

Does anyone recall medicare stating something like this???

Thanks

There is a NCCI edit in place for the two codes, thereby clearly indicating that they are not billable together for the same site. Your coworker is probably bypassing that edit with the addition of a -59 modifier. Just because they are paying it when billed this way doesn't mean it's appropriate billing.

I'm sure it won't be too long before Medicare realizes the mistake and requests that money back.
