Gold fiducial balls
We are trying to figure out the correct procedure code(s) for placement of gold fiducial balls for the treatment of metastatic brain cancer. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here is a portion of the operative report:
NAME OF OPERATION: Placement of gold fiducial balls, one in the left frontal region, one in the left parietal region, and one in the right frontal region. PROCEDURE: The patient was brought to the operating room where intravenous lines were inserted. LMA anesthesia was induced. The patient was placed supine on the operating room table. The head was secured with tape. The left and right side of the head were then prepped and draped in usual sterile fashion. Then using a #15 blade, we made stab incisions, one in the left frontal region, one in the right frontal region, and one in the left parietal region. We used a 2-mm drill bit set at 3 mm. We used a drill guide and we drilled holes in these locations. Then using the gold ball insertion device, we placed gold balls in these locations. Localization x-ray was obtained following the surgery. We then closed the wound with 3-0 nylon sutures.
