Default Hardware removal

Ok everyone I am having a debate on this. What is the difference between v54.01 and v54.89. If you look at section v54 it says excludes hardware removal (v54.89) but v54.01 is encounter for removal.

If you look under v54.0X it states ; excludes removal of external fixation device (v54.89), so hence it would be an internal vs. external device.

I guess the question is that the office manager wanted to know which one would be used for removal of the device. We had a debate on why using the V code versus a code in the 900 series

V54.01 is used when you're doing a Planned removal of internal hardware. 996.78, or another close to it, is used when the internal hardware removal is due to pain or another complication.
