Overview:

This seminar will analyze the fundamental difference between modalities and procedures as well as differentiating the various levels of contact required for the various modalities and procedures defined in CPT. We will also provide attendees with an analytical approach for determining the correct coding result regardless of how a therapeutic intervention is named (or mis-named) using AMA CPT Editorial panel code utilization guidance. The presenter will then identify a number of the more common mistakes in therapeutic code selection that give rise to post-payment liability. A number of example therapeutic interventions will be used as case studies to provide practical exercise in the application of the analytical approach provided. A variety of carrier medical policies will be reviewed as examples demonstrating the wide divergence in carrier approaches to therapeutic service coding. Finally, we will identify common errors relative to the use/mis-use of modifiers.

About The Presenter

He is a past member of the AAPC National Advisory Board and is a current member of the AAPC Legal Advisory Board. He is admitted to the Bar in the state of California as well as to the practice of law before the US District Courts in the Southern District of California and the Western District of Pennsylvania.
