E/M Coding for the Emergency Department

Overview:

During this webinar we will discuss the proper selection of ED E/M services using the 1995 and 1997 Documentation Guidelines, critical care services and modifiers commonly used in the ED setting.

• How to apply the 1995 and 1997 Exam Guidelines, using emergency department cases
• When it is appropriate to report an E/M service on the same date as a procedure
• Determine when to code critical care and additional procedures

As a coder, this webinar will give you guidance on proper selection of E/M codes in the emergency department using 1995 and 1997 Documentation Guidelines. This webinar will give the beginning coder an understanding of coding E/M services in the emergency department and the advanced coder guidance to the gray areas with E/M code selection and proper use of modifier 25.

About The Presenter

Raemarie manages the clinical development of the AAPC exams program. She has also served as national externship director for AAPC’s Xtern program and as advertising coordinator. Prior to joining AAPC, she spent many years at ConCorde Career Institute, Fla., where she served in several roles, including as an instructor for the coding and medical assistant programs. Ms. Jimenez has also worked as a billing and coding manager and medical assistant. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Florida Atlantic University. She has 15 years experience in the medical field. During her career she has conducted audits for outpatient and physician services, facilitated physician education for coding and documentation, and managed coding and billing departments for physician and outpatient services.
