Palmetto GBA announced Jan. 25 that certain ambulance claims submitted since the first of the year for particular HCPCS Level II codes with a super rural ZIP code indicator of  ‘B’ may have been underpaid.

Providers in Ohio, West Virginia, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern California, and South California may be affected.

Transportation Services codes A0426-A0429 and A0433-A0434 are affected by this processing error when reported for dates of service on or after Jan. 1, 2011 on paper claims submitted Jan. 3-5, 2011 or electronic data interchange (EDI) claims submitted Jan. 12, 18-20, 2011.

The Part B Medicare administrative contractor (MAC) for jurisdiction 1 says the error occurred because the correct file was not used. Affected claims will be adjusted accordingly.
