A change to a clinical laboratory national coverage determination (NCD) will affect all physicians, providers, and suppliers submitting claims to Medicare for clinical diagnostic laboratory services come April 1.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is making a change to the laboratory NCD edit software in time for the April 2011 release of Medicare’s edit module for clinical laboratory NCDs.
Effective for dates of service on or after April 1, new for 2011 ICD-9-CM code V49.87 Physical restraints status is being added to the list of codes not considered to support medical necessity for the Blood Counts (190.15) NCD.
