New physician educational materials are available to assist in teaching physicians about the federal laws designed to protect the Medicare and Medicaid programs and its members from fraud, waste, and abuse. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) announced the release of the new online materials Feb. 9.
In addition to the original Roadmap for New Physicians booklet, you can now download a Microsoft PowerPoint slide presentation, speaker’s notes and a video presentation that includes narration using the speaker’s notes.
These materials summarize the five main federal fraud and abuse laws (the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, the Exclusion Statute, and the Civil Monetary Penalties Law) and provide tips on how physicians should comply with these laws in their relationships with Medicare and Medicaid payers, medical suppliers, and fellow providers.
