Just Coding: Excise tumor coding concerns

During the most recent AAPC National Conference, AAPC Physician Services Regional Director Betty Johnson, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I, CCS-P, PCS, CPC-H, RMC, CCP, CIC, CPCD and AAPC ICD-10 trainer Susan Ward, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, CEMC, CPCD, CPRC presented “Lesions and Masses and Tumors, Oh My!” to attendees. Just Coding was on-hand for the presentation and recently wrote an article highlighting the presentation.
“When coding for a neoplams, your first stop might be the neoplasm table in the ICD-9-CM Manual. Unfortunately, you can’t find everything in the there, says Ward … You may need to do some more digging.”

Extremly interested in medical coding and would like to start training. Should I start with the ICD 10 or current 9? Will there be a big difference between the two? Any help you could provide would be much appreciated and I thank you for it. Jill
