Nominations for New Officers
September is the month to take nominations for 2012 chapter officers; if you’ve been mentoring all year long, now’s the time to encourage those less-involved chapter members to step up and get involved. Remember:
- Diversity makes for strong chapters
- Change is good
- It is important to keep an open mind for new ideas
Change from President-elect to Vice President
Each chapter should determine if the president-elect will transition to the role of president. If so, there is no need to take nominations for the president this year. However, you should hold elections for all other offices, including vice president. If the president-elect is not transitioning to the role of president, take nominations for president, vice president, and all other offices.
Briefly inform your nominees and other officers about the updated responsibilities of the vice president. You may want to use this PowerPoint presentation by Freda Brinson, a member of the AAPCCA Board of Directors, on officer responsibilities.
Please refer to the Local Chapter Handbook for the official rules of conducting the nominations. However, be aware that with the change from president-elect to vice president came minor changes in responsibilities to other officers as well. In order to provide support for the time between now and when the handbook is updated at the end of the year, we have provided a list of frequently asked questions relevant to elections. After reviewing these FAQs, if you still have additional questions, please contact the Local Chapter team at AAPC firstname.lastname@example.org or 800-626-2633 option 7.
