Just Coding: Identify important concepts for general surgery coding
General surgery coding is often not as difficult as some might thing, according to a recent article on JustCoding.com. Current AAPC National Advisory Board president Cynthia Stewart, CPC, CPC-H, CPMA, CPC-I and AAPC member Chandra Stephenson, CPC, CPC-H, CPMA, CPC-I, CANPC, CEMC, CFPC, CIMC, COSC were featured in the piece.
“A laparoscopy involves the use of an endoscope through an incision into the abdomen. A surgical laparoscopy always includes a diagnostic laparoscopy, Stewart says. If the surgeon performs and documents both diagnostic and surgical laparoscopy, only code the surgical procedure.”
