Advance: ICD-10: It’s About Time
The HIPPA act of 1996 is more than just privacy, says AAPC ICD-10 Trainer Betty Johnson, CPC, CPC-I, CPC-H, CPCD, CCS-P, PCS, CCP, CIC, RMC in the first edition of the “Coding Corner” column with Advance for Health Information Professionals. “HIPAA also includes provisions for standardization of healthcare information (i.e., standards for electronic claims submission, provider identifiers and code sets). This put our country on the path to ICD-10.”
The article talks about the relationships with ICD-10 and Version 5010. “It will distinguish between ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes and increase the number of diagnosis codes allowed on a claim. This may help with the billing under dual code sets when ICD-10-CM goes live,” she adds.
