Physician’s Practice: MGMA’s Tennant Offers Practices Prep Tips for ICD-10, HIPAA 5010

By now, we are all well aware of the looming ICD-10 implementation in 2013, but in just a couple short months Version 5010 kicks off the season of change. At the most recent MGMA conference both these topics are hot items. AAPC was quoted in the article based on a previous interview with Physician’s Practice magazine.
“Providers, billers, and coders will have to learn to use seven-digit alphanumeric codes, which are more specific than their predecessor three- to five-numeral ICD-9 codes … AAPC estimates a 15 percent increase in documentation time,” the article notes.
