Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms may be related to dermatologic conditions, and failure to make the connection can, in the worst-case scenarios, lead to the development of more serious systemic complications, according to Dr. Brodell, professor of internal medicine, dermatology section, and clinical professor of dermatopathology at Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, Rootstown, Ohio, and associate clinical professor of dermatology, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio (Melville, Dermatology Times, Sept. 2008).
