With ICD-10 at the top of most people’s minds lately, why would we want to talk about ICD-9 now? AAPC National Advisory Board member Brenda Edwards, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I, CEMC discussed this in the January/February issue of CMA Today.
“ICD-9 is still the active diagnosis coding system until October 1, 2013, and thorough ICD-9 knowledge aids ICD-10 preparation,” stated Edwards. She continued, “A cooperative effort benefits you and your provider when using ICD-9-CM to capture the details of the service provided.”
