NCQA Awards "Distinction" for High-quality Primary Care

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), an organization that’s committed to improving health care quality, recognized 60 primary care practices as patient-centered medical homes (PCMH) with the title of “Distinction.” These practices submitted a Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) PCMH survey to NCQA.
The participating PCMH practices use the CAHPS survey to obtain patient and family feedback. This shows the practice is dedicated to patient care and the data captured will help to track performance and improvement areas.
“NCQA CAHPS Distinction means a practice excels at listening to patients—a key to high-quality, 21st century primary care,” said Margaret O’Kane, president, NCQA. “I commend these practices for taking great interest in their patients and for laying the groundwork to track quality improvement.”
Taconic IPA and the Rhode Island Quality Institute sponsored the CAHPS practices of “Distinction.” Laura Adams, president and CEO, Rhode Island Quality Institute said, “Practices submitting their survey results contribute to an invaluable baseline for measuring patient experience in PCMHs.” She continued, “The survey allows the medical team to engage patients in quality improvement and helps ensure that the voice of the patient is at the center of the medical home.”
