Writing in Code Books and Exam Booklets
Is writing allowed in code books?
Yes! In the “Exam Certification FAQs” online it states, “Handwritten notes are acceptable in the coding books only if they pertain to daily coding activities.”
What if the writing is excessive or more than commonly seen in daily work activities?
Because this is very subjective, please act carefully. What one coder does in a job may be completely different than what another coder does. Before you disqualify an examinee it is always better to call the AAPC “Help” line.
Is writing allowed in the exam booklets?
Yes! Do not disqualify examinees because they have written in their exam booklets. The test booklets are sealed at the end of the exam and sent back to AAPC so we do allow the examinees to write in their booklets.
