ICD-10 Monitor: Talk Ten Tuesday
ICD-10 Monitor’s Talk Ten Tuesday interviews this week primarily focused on the challenges of handling workers’ compensation under the new coding system. Nannette Orme, CPC, CPMA, CEMC, CCS-P, discussed the results of a recent poll regarding what practices will do if their state worker’s compensation does not require acceptance of ICD-10-CM codes after October 1, 2014. Ms. Orme also fielded questions about ICD-10 code mapping and pointed out some concerns with such processes, especially when automated.
Physician involvement in ICD-10 implementation was also addressed in the broadcast, in an interview with Stephen Spain, MD, FAAFP, CPC, current member of AAPC’s National Advisory Board.
“My advice to physicians across the board would be to be in touch with their administrators, whether they’re hospital-affiliated or not, and find out what preparations are in place for ICD-10. They need to be actively involved in the implementation process.” said Dr. Spain.
