Physicians Practice: Why Physician Self-auditing is So Important
The auditing process can be a frightening experience for some providers but once there is a clear and concise understanding of that process, the fear diminishes. AAPC National Advisory Board’s Member Relations Officer Melody S. Irvine, CPC, CPMA, CEMC, CFPC, CPC-I, CCS-P, CMRS, was recently highlighted by Physicians Practice discussing the importance of self-auditing and ways to identify areas of concern that could put the physician or practice at a risk for audits.
“Our most important goal as coders is to protect our physicians from any potential fraud or abuse,” she says, “however, this is a team effort and requires the entire office to follow the necessary steps of a compliance plan to be successful.” The article continues to explain areas to build upon as a foundation for future audits.
