Advance: 2013 CPT Codes to Watch

There are more than 700 Current Procedural Terminology® (CPT®) code changes and guideline revisions for 2013, and a multitude of reasons behind them. AAPC’s Director of Education Raemarie Jimenez, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I, CANPC, CRHC, recently published an article in Advance for Health Information Professionals in which she outlines the primary changes to keep an eye on this year.
“Most changes are a result of new technology, combination codes created to bundle the surgical and radiologic supervision and interpretation or guidance, Category III codes replaced with Category I codes or sunset, or code description revisions to clarify code use,” she explains.
