ICD-10 Monitor: Talk Ten Tuesday – Big Data
ICD-10 Monitor’s Talk Ten Tuesday interviews this week included Maria Bounos, RN, CPC-H, who discussed “big data,” one of the latest hot topics in the health care information technology industry. The phrase “big data” often refers to a large volume of information that is waiting to be analyzed, providing an opportunity to uncover hidden patterns or correlations. The greater specificity requirements of ICD-10 will cause an influx of big data regarding disease characteristics.
“The primary goal of big data analytics is to really help companies make better business decisions,” she said. “With big data a common goal… would be to adopt the resources to analyze data and implement quality measures moving forward so that it will drive better patient care at the end of the day.”
