The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued, Oct. 7, a correction document to the 2010 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) for acute care hospitals and Long Term Care Hospital Prospective Payment System (LTCH PPS) final rule. Make hospital billing staff aware of these corrections, which include changes to important compliance dates and payment rates.

Note the following changes in the correction document:

On page 43889, the submission period for annual electronic acknowledgement of the completeness and accuracy of data for 2011 payment determination was incorrectly indicated as once between Jan. 1, 2010 and Aug. 15, 2010. The correct dates are July 1, 2010 and Aug. 15, 2010.

Errors in the Addendum

On pages 44011, 44015, 44017, 44019, 44020, 44021, and 44031, CMS cited that the forecast of the 2006-based capital input price index (CIPI) for 2010 is 1.4 percent. However, the 2006-based CIPI for 2010 is actually 1.2 percent, as stated in the preamble of the 2010 IPPS/LTCH PPS final rule, published Aug. 27. CMS is correcting this error in the update to the capital rates. CMS is also correcting that capital outlier offset since outlier payments are determined based on the capital rates.

Most of the corrections made throughout the rule reflect the change to the CIPI.

Corrections went into effect Oct. 1. For further details, read the complete correction document.
