California Medical Association: Changes to 2013 Category III Codes
There are 47 changes to Category III codes in the 2013 CPT® manual. In a recent article published by the California Medical Association, AAPC’s Managing Editor G. John Verhovshek, MA, CPC, reviewed why it’s important to use Category III codes and highlighted some of the 2013 changes.
“If a Category III code is not replaced by a Category I code (or otherwise revised) within five years, the Category III code will ‘sunset,’ unless there is a demonstrated need to continue the temporary code,” he says.
