ICD-10 Monitor: Talk Ten Tuesday
In this week’s Talk Ten Tuesday podcast, AAPC’s National Advisory Board President David B. Dunn, MD, FACS, CPC-H, CIRCC, CCC, CCS, RCC, detailed what will happen to HIPAA-covered entities when ICD-10 is implemented.
“There is no grace period. That means at the stroke of midnight, September 30th, 2014, everything must change and every provider covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act must be fully transitioned, and those who are not will likely see a negative effect on their reimbursements,” he explains. “ICD-10 is much more than just redefining how we code… What were only a few codes once will become many, making anatomical knowledge and physiology significantly more challenging, and proper physician documentation even more critical.”
