Updates Finalized for 2014 Electronic Clinical Measures
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released June updates to the 2014 electronic clinical measures (eCQMs), which affects eligible professionals who are maintaining the EHR Incentive Program’s Stage 2 of Meaningful Use. In the final rule, CMS outlines the timeline for reviewing and publishing specification updates.
According to the CMS 2014 Annual Updates:
CMS strongly encourages the implementation and use of the updates to the electronic specifications of the CQMs finalized in the Stage 2 rule for the 2015 EHR Reporting Period since those updates include new codes, logic corrections and clarifications. However, CMS will accept all versions of the CQMs for MU for 2015, beginning with those finalized in the December 4, 2012 CMS-ONC Interim Final Rule.
The eCQM EHR Incentive Program specifications are aligned with multiple programs, such as Physician Quality Reporting System, to reduce the burden on providers of reporting quality measures.
