ICD-10: Implementation Strategies

We will be sharing a number of strategies to help your practice successfully implement ICD-10-CM. Please remember to track your progress in your ICD-10 Implementation Tracker on AAPC’s website.

ICD-10-PCS

When considering education plans for your organization, don’t forget about ICD-10-PCS. If the staff needs to learn the procedure coding system for ICD-10, they are going to need more time to learn this code set. It is unlike any other coding system currently in use. The system contains no complete codes, but tables that are used by the coder to “build the code” from the documentation. The terminology is different, the system is different, and the process is different. Expect and plan for a much bigger learning curve for the coders.
