ICD-10 Monitor: Talk Ten Tuesday
AAPC member Stephen Spain MD, MBA, CPC recently made a guest appearance on a Talk Ten Tuesday show. The show’s theme was based off Dr. Spain’s recently article about making the most of the delay. When asked what hospitals and physician practices should be doing now, Dr. Spain responded,
“Organizations need to be trying to assess their risk or their exposure to problems with ICD-10 implementation.”
He recommended performing chart audits and talking to vendors as two ways to accomplish this.
AAPC member Deb Girder suggested dual-coding as a way to prepare,
“If you begin dual coding in the physician practices and well as in the hospital, and build that proficiency, it is possible that you will not be affected so dramatically with a reduction in productivity.”
