CMS Recognizes Interventional Cardiologists as a Subspecialty in 2015
Since January 1, 2015 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recognizes a new physician specialty code for Interventional Cardiology (C3). According to the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCIA), which lobbied for the new subspecialty designation, “This recognition of our field as a distinct physician specialty is a major achievement because it will enhance our ability to represent our profession and our patients.”
Interventional Cardiologists who have not already done so must register their subspecialty with CMS by re-submitting their participating provider form to their Medicare’s Administrative Contractors (MAC).
