Financially Speaking, Location Matters for Physicians
As a healthcare provider, talk of salary is taboo because patient care comes first. If you are a curious specialist, however, and want to know how your salary compares to other physicians, Doximity launched a new tool that shows your earnings by county and specialty. You can see what areas in the United States pay more money in a specialty. For example, a neurosurgeon in Montgomery County, Maryland makes $580,000 a year; whereas, one in South Carolina makes $645,000.
The site also shows the average salaries for various specialties for the entire United States.
The data is anonymous from more than 18,000 physicians. The average physicians who contributed salary data had been out of medical school for 20-30 years, served his or her residency, and payed off student loan debt.
