AMA Posts CPT Errata and Technical Corrections

In case you missed it, the American Medical Association released on Feb. 26 errata and technical corrections to CPT® 2016. The changes, posted on the AMA’s website, are effective Jan. 1, 2016.

Take Note

In the Surgery – Musculoskeletal System section, add missing text (underlined) to the parenthetical after code 29889 Arthroscopically aided posterior cruciate ligament repair/augmentation or reconstruction.

(Procedures 29888 and 29889 should not be used with reconstruction procedures 27427-27429)

In the Surgery – Digestive System section, change the medium descriptor for CPT® tonsillectomy codes 42825 and 42826 to read as follows:

42825 Tonsillectomy primary/secondary <age 12
42826 Tonsillectomy primary/secondary age 12/>

In the Medicine – Vaccines, Toxoids section, revise the medium descriptor for code 90644, as follows:

90644 HIB-Mency Vacc 4 Dose Sched 6 Wks-18 Months IM

For Category III code 0439T Myocardial contrast perfusion echocardiography; at rest or with stress, for assessment of myocardial ischemia or viability (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure), revise the parenthetical note to read:

(Use 0439T in conjunction with 93306, 93307, 93308, 93350, 93351)

Note that 0439T is an early release and will be published in the 2017 CPT® code set.

In Appendix O – Multianalyte Assays with Algorithmic Analyses, revise MAAA code 0010M to read as follows:

0010M Oncology (high-grade prostate cancer), biochemical assay of four proteins (Total PSA, Free PSA, Intact PSA and human kallikrein-2 [hK2]) utilizing plasma or serum, prognostic algorithm reported as a probability score
