The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published Jan. 26 in the Federal Register a correction (FR Doc E9-1519) to the 2009 Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS)/Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) final rule regarding HCPCS code J3300.

HCPCS code J3300 Injection, triamcinolone acetonide, preservative free, 1 mg was incorrectly assigned status indicator “N.” This error appears in Addendum B on page 69228 of the 2009 OPPS/ASC final rule.
HCPCS code J3300 should have a status indicator “K” Nonpass-through drugs and biologicals; paid under OPPS; separate APC payment.
As a result of this error, in Addendum A, on page 68831, CMS has added APC 1253 Triamcinolone A inj PRS-free with status indicator “K;” and in Addendum BB, on page 69301, CMS has changed the ASC payment indicator for J3300 from “N1” to “K2” Drugs and biologicals paid separately when provided integral to a surgical procedure on ASC list; payment based on OPPS rate.
The corrected payment rate for HCPCS code J3300 is $3.18.
