President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Seema Verma, a health policy expert in Indiana, as his pick for administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Verma is the President, CEO and founder of SVC, Inc., a national health policy consulting company. Verma previously worked under Indiana Governor and Vice-President Elect Mike Pence to help Indiana expand Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Indiana’s approach adopted controversial requirements that low-income residents receiving Medicaid pay small monthly contributions for their health coverage, which were meant both to cut costs and to encourage individuals to take greater responsibility for their health.
