CMS Extends Comment Period for SNF PPS Case-mix Revisions
If you haven’t commented on the notice of proposed revisions to the Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System (SNF PPS) case-mix methodology, it’s not too late. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) just granted an extension to the comment period.
In an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) with commend period, published in the Federal Register on May 4, CMS solicited comments on potential options they may consider for revising certain aspects of the existing SNF PPS payment methodology.
The comment period was to end on June 26; however, CMS has extended the comment period to Aug. 25.
CMS is seeking comments on the possibility of proposing to replace the SNF PPS case-mix classification model — the Resource Utilization Groups, Version 4 (RUG-IV) — with a new model: the Resident Classification System, Version I (RSC-I). The agency is also soliciting ideas on how best to implement the new model.
CMS is further interested in learning if there are other policy changes worth considering that would complement implementation of the RCS-I.
See the ANPRM; Extension of comment period for instructions on how to submit comments.
