Additional Information About Changes Coming in 2019

As mentioned in last month’s officer news, requirements for chapters will be slightly different in 2019. Six educational events will still be required but not all events must be traditional meetings. Events that will be approved are defined as:

  • Traditional meetings – A minimum of 4 are required annually
    • Officers are present
    • All attendees are in person
    • CEUs are awarded
    • Reimbursements are paid at $2 per AAPC attendee
      • Events should be low cost to no cost, where attendees may be asked to pay for expenses only
    • Speakers may present virtually*
  • Virtual meetings – Not required
    • Officers are attending virtually
    • All attendees are virtual (attending via website)
      • There is no requirement of inclement weather or a specific distance to travel for attendees.
    • CEUs are awarded
    • Reimbursements are not paid by AAPC
  • Seminars – Not required
    • Officers are present
    • All attendees are in person
    • CEUs are awarded
    • Reimbursements are not paid by AAPC
      • Officers may charge for attendance

There are other options available that can also enhance traditional meetings.
Some chapters are hosting live video-meetings where the host chapter is in one place and the guest chapter is in another.

  • Live video meetings
    • Two or more sites may participate
      • One site serves as the host site, the other is the guest site
    • Officers are present in all locations
    • The speaker is in one location, but viewable via video in the other location(s)
    • All attendees are in person
    • CEUs are awarded at all locations
    • Reimbursements are paid at $2 per AAPC attendee
      • These events are particularly convenient where hospital systems have AAPC-member employees who live and work in two different cities yet share the same system technology

The Chapter Association Board of Directors is forming a speaker’s bureau which will consist of speakers who are available and have the technology to give educational presentations to a chapter virtually

  • Traditional meetings w/virtual speakers*
    • Watch for more information on the list
    • All officers and attendees are in person, the speaker is virtual
