Suppliers Face O2 Equipment Maintenance Fee Change
Durable Medical Equipment (DME) suppliers should be aware of Medicare payment changes for maintenance and servicing of oxygen equipment due to go into effect July 1.
For maintenance and servicing of rental oxygen concentrators and transfilling equipment, Medicare will pay a flat fee every six months, beginning six months after the 36th paid rental month or the end of the period the item is no longer covered under warranty, whichever is later. For service dates between July 1 and Dec. 31, the reimbursement fee is $66.
This fee covers all maintenance and servicing of oxygen equipment (other than stationary or portable gaseous or liquid oxygen equipment) within a six-month period that is necessary to maintain good, working order equipment. At least one visit for maintenance and servicing is required the first month of each six-month period.
For proper reimbursement of claims, suppliers should append modifier MS Six-month maintenance and servicing fee for parts and labor to the appropriate HCPCS Level II code.
Suppliers should use:
E1390 Oxygen concentrator, single delivery port, capable of delivering 85 percent or greater oxygen concentration at the prescribed flow rate, each for maintenance and servicing of a single delivery port stationary or portable oxygen concentrator and for a single delivery port stationary oxygen concentrator and gaseous or liquid oxygen transfilling equipment combination.
E1391 Portable oxygen concentrator, rental for maintenance and servicing of a dual delivery port stationary oxygen concentrator or a dual delivery port stationary oxygen concentrator and gaseous or liquid oxygen transfilling equipment combination.
E0433 Portable liquid oxygen system, rental; home liquefier used to fill portable liquid oxygen container, includes portable containers, regulator, flowmeter, humidifier, cannula or mask and tubing, with or without supply reservoir and contents gauge only when the Medicare patient owns the stationary oxygen equipment and rents the gaseous oxygen transfilling equipment.
K0738 Portable gaseous oxygen system, rental; home compressor used to fill portable oxygen cylinders; includes portable containers, regulator, flowmeter, humidifier, cannula or mask, and tubing only when the Medicare patient owns the stationary equipment and rents liquid oxygen transfilling equipment.
