Message From Your Region 6 Representatives | January 2019

Happy 2019!

As we begin this new year, many of us think of resolutions we want to make. We have things we want to do or things we want to improve upon.

Pam Tienter and Jean Pryor | Region 6 – Great Lakes

Most resolutions involve our personal lives and are things like losing weight, exercising more, or quitting smoking. Try making a goal for your professional life and focus on learning.

It is important for us to keep up with the ever-changing healthcare field, yet when searching for that extra learning to keep up with our CEUs, we tend to stay within our field of expertise. Obviously, we need to do that, but how about also stepping outside the box? Keep learning and expand your horizons. Maybe you work in an OB/Gyn office, but have always been interested in Orthopedics. How about attending that webinar about fractures? Or that conference session about knee arthroplasty? Studies have shown that being mentally active is just as important as being physically active. This can be done in a variety of ways and with CEUs included!

Under the Education heading on the AAPC website, you can find many ways to earn CEUs. Conferences are one of the options and a few are offered throughout the year. A wide variety of topics are covered, so you are sure to find sessions you will like. To top it off, the venues and food are great, they are organized with the AAPC member in mind and the camaraderie can’t be beat! You will be there with like-minded people and can make friendships that last a lifetime. Once you’ve experienced a conference, you will wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner.

HEALTHCON is coming up April 28th through May 1st, at the iconic Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. HEALTHCON is larger than the two regional conferences offered later in the year. The general session speakers are is amazing, the breakout sessions cover all specialties and are presented by some of the industry’s finest. You will see AAPC staff, the National Advisory Board and the Chapter Association Board there, so be sure to introduce yourself. In between sessions are breaks where you can visit the vendor area to speak with vendors about their products and/or services and even come away with some of their free swag. You can also visit the AAPC Product Store, where they sell code books, study guides, clothing, pins, mugs and more at conference prices. And surely, we don’t need to say much about the location – It’s Las Vegas!

We encourage you to check out HEALTHCON and get signed up. AAPC even has a “Prepare for HEALTHCON” area on their website to help you out. Do it for your professional development, but more importantly, do it for YOU. Come join the fun!

Come and find us – we’d love to meet you!
