At HEALTHCON 2019, Mary and I enjoyed meeting with Region 8 members at the AAPC Region luncheon. We also proudly represented our region by giving a presentation on electronic health record template abuse.

Mary Wood and Michael Warner | Region 8 – West

Please check your schedules for an upcoming AAPC Regional Conference in New York City, Aug. 19-21, or Seattle, Washington, Oct. 14-16. Mary and I have submitted a presentation for the Seattle regional conference on how to accommodate Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rules for 2018, 2019, and 2021.
Now through the next few years will create defining moments for everyone in the healthcare arena to take on new roles and responsibilities. This includes coders, auditors, practice managers, ancillary staff members, medical students, providers and – last but not least – patients. From Mary’s provider education point of view and from my policy roles on American Medical Association’s RVS Update Committee and American Osteopathic Association’s committee, we see ways that you can advance yourself in the business of healthcare.
I am in the process of relocating from Pennsylvania to Napa, Calif. I have taken a medical school associate professor role at the Touro University California – College of Osteopathic Medicine, Vallejo, Calif. This new job will place me in a position to teach medical students how to document, bill, and code. It will also create opportunities to conduct research to define best practices to accommodate new CMS policies. With both of my children living and working in San Francisco, this relocation will allow my wife and I to spend more quality and quantity time with our family. This relocation will also allow me to live in Region 8 with my AAPC family.
Mary Wood, CPC, AAPC Instructor, and I look forward to continuously engaging with our region. With future newsletters, we will keep you up to date on our endeavors to serve you. Please feel comfortable connecting with me on LinkedIn at By connecting with me, you will be able to easily link with Mary Wood and other AAPC NAB members.
Wishing you the best,
Michael & Mary
