Message From Your Region 6 Representatives | Pam Tienter and Jean Pryor

As we move into November and December, the National Advisory Board (NAB) is looking at what we’ve accomplished in 2019 and what we will be working on in 2020. The NAB Committees are made up of NAB members and AAPC employees. We are proud to serve on committees and help AAPC with so much.

The Career Advancement Committee secured a partnership with MentorCity, so members can be paired and develop the mentor/mentee relationship to foster professional growth and career development. You can find or become a mentor or mentee right from the AAPC website: When you are on the home page, hover over Resources at the top of the page and click on Mentorship in the drop-down menu under Career Enhancement. This will take you right to the Mentorship page. It’s very easy to create a profile and then find a mentor or mentee that matches to you. What a great resource!
At HEALTHCON, the Certification and Training Committee arranged a networking breakfast for CPMAs that was a big hit. Tables were arranged by topic, so attendees could sit with others to network with other auditors on those topics, such as E/M auditing, auditing tools, developing an auditing plan or how to present audit results. Feedback was so positive that plans are being discussed for the next networking breakfast.
The NAB is also aware that many members don’t know of the NAB or what they do, therefore, the Networking and Awareness Committee is working on NAB Awareness during this 2018-2021 NAB term. As part of this, attendees at this year’s HEALTHCON and regional conferences could participate with a “Find the NAB” activity for prizes. This helped attendees recognize the NAB members and at upcoming conferences, there will be more information provided on what the NAB is working on currently. This committee also worked with AAPC as they created a new AAPC Certified Members Facebook group. This group would be where certified members can ask questions to the experienced group. The AAPC Facebook group is still for anyone – students, those members not yet certified and even certified members – to seek advice or just network.
It’s not quite the end of the year yet, but how was this year for you? Before we know it, we will be in 2020! What plans and goals do you have for yourself? How will you grow yourself professionally?  Check out what AAPC has to offer and challenge yourself! As Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” And you can!
