The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC, www.aapc.com), the nation’s largest education and credentialing association for medical coders, announces that it has hired Julia Bond-Smith as its director of client development. Bond-Smith will assist both the Education and Marketing departments in extending education outreach.

In the Education Department, she has been charged with coordinating with colleges across the country to continue to promote AAPC’s secondary-education courses on medical coding and billing. Many colleges in the United States are currently using the courses in their curriculum. Bond-Smith says she is excited about her new position and is looking forward to working with colleges to educate them on the need and importance of offering medical coding courses.

In the Marketing Department, Bond-Smith will assist with the creation of marketing materials for use in promoting AAPC products, events and the association as a whole. It is here that her industry knowledge and background will be most beneficial as AAPC continues to refine its message to the coding world.

“Julia is a welcome addition to our team,” said Reed Pew, CEO and president of the Salt Lake-based AAPC. “She brings with her years of health care and marketing experience that will help AAPC in continuing its efforts to enhance benefits for its members working in health care organizations nationwide.”

Prior to coming to AAPC, Bond-Smith worked at the Eye Institute of Utah in Murray where she recruited and trained new optometrists and created new patient seminar presentations. She also worked at the Hull Eye Center in Lancaster, Calif., where she was responsible for patient evaluations and all phases of patient testing, among other duties.
