It’s not too late for physicians to participate in the Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program and potentially qualify for a full-year incentive payment. Eligible professionals (EPs) may begin reporting eRx at any time throughout 2010.
EPs who successfully report the eRx measure may qualify to receive an incentive payment equal to 2.0 percent of the total Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) allowed charges for services performed during the reporting year.
The eRx Incentive Program is separate from the Physicians Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and physicians can participate in both programs. Between 2011-2015, EPs may earn an eRx incentive payment through the eRx Incentive Program or the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program, but not both. Beginning in 2012, EPs who are not successful electronic prescribers will be subject to a MPFS payment adjustment.
More information regarding the e-Prescribing Incentive Program is available on the CMS website.
