AAPC Begins ICD-10 Implementation Training With Series of Free Webinars

SALT LAKE CITY—July 9, 2009—To help providers and payers begin preparing for a smooth ICD-10   implementation process, the American Academy of Professional Coders is hosting a free Webinar series in July. The series, which has separate tracks for providers and payers, will review the ICD-10 training plan and the necessary steps for successful implementation. The Webinar schedule is:

Provider Track: ICD-10 Implementation Training Three-Part Webinar Series

  • Thurs., July 16, 2009—Overview, Part 1

Part one of the overview will discuss the impact of ICD-10 to provider organizations and will dive into the first steps of implementation, which include organizing the implementation effort, developing a communication plan, conducting an impact analysis and organizing cross-functional efforts. This segment will also review how to develop timelines.

  • Thurs., July 23, 2009—Overview, Part 2

Building upon the steps discussed in the first part of this Webinar series, part 2 of the overview will examine additional steps in the provider implementation plan. These steps include estimating budget, designing and developing an internal system, developing an education and training plan, contacting system vendors, planning for implementation, analyzing the business process and embarking on the first phase of education and training.

  • Thurs., July 30, 2009—Overview, Part 3

The final segment of the three-part series continues on from the steps explained in the second part. Wrapping up the discussion on the implementation steps, this session will outline phase two of the education and training, policy change development, measuring outcomes, deployment of code by vendors to customers and implementation compliance.

Those attending the provider ICD-10 training implementation Webinar series may also sign up for a continuing education unit (CEU) module to earn up to three CEUs.

Payer Track: ICD-10 Implementation Training Two-Part Webinar Series

  • Tues., July 21, 2009—Part 1: ICD-10 CM/PCS: The Basics for Health Plans and Payers

This segment will give an overview of what payers will need to focus on in the implementation and how to achieve their individual health plans’ goals. This kick-off Webinar segment is for all payer employees that need to be involved with the ICD-10 implementation.

  • Tues., July 28, 2009—Part 2: Organizational Implementation of ICD-10 for Health Plans and Payers

With the potential for the ICD-10 transition to impact every part of a health plan or payer’s business, this segment will provide attendees with a 30,000-foot view of steps to implement the new system.

Those attending the payer ICD-10 training implementation Webinar series may also sign up for a CEU module worth up to two CEUs.

    Deb refers to the handouts for the seminar for ICD-10. I’m listening and have checked my e-mails and have no link to the document. Can you please send it to me?


    I listened by phone and followed your outline but was unable to print it out for referrence material.

    Also, how much is it to obtain the CEUs ? My Supervisor was on vacation when I registered so now that she is back, I could get her permission for a charge.

    There will 2 of us who are members of the AAPC who are interested in these CEUs.

    Although I was not one of the first 1,000 to sign up for the webinar series, the e-mail response I got said I would be able to access it 24 hours later. I have tried this several times today and cannot locate it. I, like the others above would like the handouts/audio. Also, is there any quiz or opportunity for CEUs if we didn’t purchase the 29.95 package? Thank-you!

    I have also singed up for the webinar but can not find where to log in. I also brought the evaluations for the CEU’s and can’t find that area anymore. Last week I had it now I don’t. Help it starts in 35 mins.

    I purchased the CEU module for 3 CEUs for this webinar series. I’ve called twice to try to find out how to access the webinar and was told that since I wasn’t one of the first 1000, I would only have access to the recordings and materials. I was told I would receive an email within 24 hours after the webinar to be able to access these. I never received an email and now the second webinar is today and I still don’t have access. Can you please let me know how to access the recordings and materials for all three in the series?

    Hello Everyone:

    The training is free and if you pay the 30.00 you can take 3 electronic quizzes, which will give you 3 CEUs.

    To get to the trainings, which are available as audio and video recordings the day AFTER the actual presentation:
    1. Sign in to your membership account on the AAPC site.
    2. Go to the membership area which is a link in the right hand corner of your screen
    3. On the left hand side of the screen, click on “My Events”
    4. Click on the audio/video tab
    5. You will see all the trainings/materials there IF you have registered. At the bottom of the page are the 3 buttons for the quizzes.

    Only the first registered 1000 participants can hear the live webinar. The rest of us have to wait to hear it the day after. The presentations will be available for a number of months so you can go in and listen repeatedly and/or wait until all 3 are complete and sit and do them all at once.

    I was able to print the slides for the first webinar but not the second, it states there is an error that cannot be fixed. Did anyone else have this problem?
