Surescripts Added As EHR Certifier

Surescripts, a Virginia-based electronic prescribing network provider, is approved as the sixth of groups that can test and certifiy electronic health records (EHR) modules, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced Dec. 23, 2010.

Surescripts is authorized to test and certify that EHR modules are compliant with the e-prescribing and privacy and security standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria adopted by the Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary and meet the definition of “certified EHR technology.”

As an ONC-Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ATCB), Surescripts joins the ranks of other ONC-ATCBs, including the Certification Commission for Health IT (CCHIT), Drummond Group, InfoGard Labs, ICSA Labs, and SLI Global Solutions. All but Surescripts may certify both complete EHRs and EHR modules.

Authorized by the National Coordinator, ONC-ATCBs are required to test and certify that certain types of EHR technology (Complete EHRs and EHR Modules) are compliant with meaningful use guidelines.
