The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that reasonable accommodations be provided to qualified individuals with disabilities. This law defines disabilities as physical or mental impairments that substantially limit one or more of a person's major life activities (e.g., walking, hearing, speaking, seeing, breathing). AAPC will provide reasonable accommodation(s) to qualified applicants who have documented disabilities and demonstrate a need for accommodation(s) during the examination or instructor-led course.
The purpose of AAPC certifications is to test an examinee’s knowledge of applicable principles, accuracy, proficiency, and speed. For these reasons, AAPC will consider accommodation requests for additional time, up to one hour during an examination. The purpose of AAPC’s instructor-led course is to better prepare students for the certification exam. AAPC will consider accommodation requests for class recordings and eBooks. Additional costs for code eBooks may apply based on the publisher.
Challenges such as test anxiety, English as a second language, and slow reading (without an identified and underlying cognitive deficit) are not learning disabilities and therefore do not qualify exam candidates for ADA accommodations (in and of themselves).
Obtain a current Medical Evaluation Letter from a qualified healthcare professional (from the past 12 months). Letters must strictly adhere to these requirements to be considered.
Fill out the ADA Exam Accommodation Request Form below, ensuring to upload your Medical Evaluation Letter(s) prior to submitting.
Accommodation requests must be approved prior to scheduling your exam. If accommodation(s) are approved after scheduling, the exam date will be cancelled. It is the examinee’s responsibility to reschedule. Approved accommodation(s) will be applied to the new exam date.
Live Remote Proctor (LRP) exams: Once accommodation(s) have been approved, examinees may proceed with exam scheduling. Please be aware that your accommodation(s) will not show on your confirmations, however, they will be applied and verified by the proctor on the day of the examination.
Meazure Learning Testing Center exams: Once accommodation(s) have been approved, examinees must submit their exam scheduling request at least 30 days prior to their desired test date. This ensures the testing center can adequately prepare to meet the accommodations and allocate the appropriate time slot for your examination. Meazure Learning Testing Center availability can be limited, so advance planning is advisable to guarantee your desired exam date.
