Summary

Dialysis removes fluid, electrolytes, and other low–molecula–weight toxic substances from the blood by filtration through hollow artificial membranes and may be routinely performed in 3 weekly sessions. Peritoneal dialysis is carried out at home by the patient. Although support is helpful, it is not essential. The concept behind continuous renal replacement techniques is to dialyze patients in a more physiologic way, slowly, over 24 hours, just like the kidney does.

Report 90947 if the procedure requires repeated physician evaluations, with or without substantial revision of a dialysis prescription.
