Summary

The provider evaluates the function of the autonomic nervous system, which controls those body functions, such as heart rate, temperature regulation, and other functions that are involuntary. He uses an electrocardiogram, or ECG, rhythm strip, i.e., a graphic representation of the patient’s rhythm and heart rate, to record the patient’s response to deep breathing, to the Valsalva maneuver, and to standing, for example, the 30:15 ratio test.
